THE ONE WITH THE CHEESE + THE COAST

Monday, August 29, 2016

On Friday, I loaded up the kids and headed toward the coast. All I really had in mind for us to do was to visit the  Tillamook Cheese Factory. Sampling cheeses. Eating ice cream. It's a dairy lovers dream, right?

Yes. Yes, it is.

So we went. It was busy but the kids and I enjoyed seeing the cheese move along the conveyor belt and get sliced and packaged.

Tell me this isn't real. #Blech

On another note, Tillamook Cheese has turned into a constant reminder of Savannah, Georgia for me. When Brad and I were having our  Tenth Anniversary meal at The Olde Pink House our waiter told us the specials which included cheese grits cake that was made with Tillamook cheese. We told the fellow we knew exactly the factory he was speaking of and ordered the dish. It was phenominal, by the way. So now, Tillamook cheese and my Tenth Wedding Anniversary are forever connected. Great food has a way of doing that.

But back to this past Friday...

So we were done at the factory and I used the Trip Advisor app to see what else we could do. We drove to the coastline and went into the  Cape Meares Lighthouse and took a short walk to see the  Octopus Treethen drove over to Oceanside beach and played in the sand. We had dinner at  Schooner's where Wyatt asked to eat raw oysters for the first time. Don't worry. I talked him down from the ledge and he settled for oven-roasted oysters instead.

I tried them. They were still too slimy for my liking. Wyatt loved them, though.

Then it was back to the beach so we could see our first ever west coast sunset.

We spotted Bambi on the way to Schooner's. So cute!

Not too shabby for a Friday. =)
